Another "Unable to Login, Please try again" thread

Well picked up a retail copy of the game today from a Melbourne retailer, installed and updated the game. Went to multiplayer to "Redeem Code", logged in using my USA EA login and accepted the terms. Then it asked me to enter my code and I get the response "Unable to Login, Please try again". Now I am unsure if this means my code has been compromised or the servers are down.

OK so been trying more and it seems my account login is just fine and it only comes up with this message after I enter my code.

Can someone confirm if the servers are down and put my mind to rest?

As you did not specify the game I assume BC2?
Just logged in okay however 8.00 GMT.
So add 11 hours to that for AU eastern summer time makes server maintenance starts about 7PM Eastern Summer Time. Given the above, logins may be erratic for an hour or so after 7PM, BF2 server maintenance used to be about an hour from memory but could go out to 2 or 3 hours easy if something went horribly wrong.
So just keep trying as it sounds like you logged in ok initially then the connection to the servers dropped.

Bugger, might be you firewall or router blocking the game from connecting to the net. Start by checking any software firewall has allowed bfbc2 net access. I often find the easiest way to do this is to run a game in windowed mode so you can see any security alert popups.
For BFBC2 you do this by hitting alt enter at the login screen and any popup should then show up when you try to log in. Don't forget that if you have Vista or Win 7 you will need to run the game with full administrative privileges.
Otherwise only other thing I can think of is you are behind a proxy server of some sort which may be causing the issue.
Could try contacting EA support through the support web site (see tag) and see if you can get a response from them.
This mentions issues still

Try running the BFBC2 updater from program files/electronic arts/battlefield bad company 2 folder, see if that helps..

Cheers

Thanks for the replies. I will try again tonight however I am quite concerned because I am able to login with my user no problems, it fails as soon as I enter my key into the window when asked it is then I get this message. So if I had firewall issues then I wouldn't be able to login with my user ID either.

I emailed EA last night and so far no reply, are they usually good at replying or am I forced to pay $2.50 per minute to call them which is really amazing. Wow that is $150/hr for support people that get paid a pittance, what a rip! Sick

Can be pretty slow to reply and with a new game out it could be even worse.
Firewall wise I am think the registration thing is a separate application so it might get blocked especially by some of the more intrusive third party firewalls.
There is also the possibility that
* a repeat prompt for your serial number when attempting to reconnect to your profile, from the link I posted earlier has something to do with it.

ok thanks, similar issue....

Anyway what I would like to know is if you enter an invalid key do you get this unable to login question or do you get an invalid key message? This would help take the worry away, I am still concerned that so far my key has not been accepted.

Pretty frustrating.

Should get an invalid key message not an invalid login as far as I know.

OK just tried again and same message every time. This is getting really annoying and EA support does not respond. I am beyond annoyed now. I cannot even get a semblance of logging in. I could understand some lag or not being able to login to a server sometimes in these early days but I cannot get anywhere, I cannot see a server list or anything.

I don't pirate games but I feel ignored as if I was one.
